Though this film isn’t specifically about Tiny Homes, its content and the questions explored throughout the film are very relevant to the Micro-living movement. The documentary explores how the American Dream has shifted to become synonymous with compulsory material consumerism.
A minimalist lifestyle is one of the many types of movements that people are using to combat the material-obsessed, unsustainable, and unhealthy lifestyles that have become identified with American culture. One of the producers of the movie states that his journey to Minimalism was about “taking control of his life.” I’ve heard very similar responses from people who are asked why they decide to move into a tiny home. The film even interviews tiny home designers and dwellers, as well as the No Impact Man, an economist, sociologist, neuroscientist, an architect, and the authors of Zen Habits, Enough, and 10% Happier.
I highly recommend the film for anyone who’s looking for some inspiration on how to live a little simpler.
